Subject:Satsuma Vase
Posted By: BL Sat, Feb 01, 2025 IP: 73.57.72.34

Hello,
I bought this Satsuma vase a number of years ago at a flea market in Florida. I would like to know the name of the artist and also if is it unusual for a satsuma vase to have Cloisonné technique applied to it? Thanks.
BL

Dear BL,

I’m not an expert, I am only a humble brazilian japanese language student... So I advise taking my observations with caution. That said, while it’s not uncommon to see some Satsuma-style vases with overglaze enamels, it would indeed be rare to encounter a true Satsuma vase incorporating the cloisonné technique. Given this suposition, don’t you think it’s more likely tobe a modern or experimental piece?

The signature reads:
石松 (Ishimatsu).

Hugs from Brazil,
Renato
