Subject:My challenge on Katsukawa Shunko Part 6
Posted By: Renato Thu, Jan 09, 2025 IP: 177.140.12.187

Hi my dear Nagy and friends of Asian Arts Forum.

I am back with that challenge on Katsukawa Shunko cursive kanji.

I know this is not much, but I just understood something like this:

UPPER INSCRIPTION
東都八景 Toto hakkei 日本橋晴嵐 - Nihonbashi seiran - Clear weather in Nihonbashi - From the series Toto hakkei (Eight views of the Eastern Capital)

Daimyo no teramachi-dōri no Koya-sushi - The daimyo's small sushi shop in the temple town

BELOW INSCRIPTION
? ? (It doesn't make any sense to me)

I will appretiate any atempt to transcribe this.
many thanks
Hugs from Brazil

Inscriptions in my reading and interpretation,

Eight Views of the Eastern Capital
Nihonbashi, Lingering Haze

Daimyō no tai no tōri no Nihonbashi
kakaru ran* mo hanare** ato-tatsu
Okanoya
Kira
Kyōsō***

The Nihonbashi Bridge on the daimyos' street,
the haze that covers it, will also disappear

* It also can be read as "arashi" - tempest - which also can be taken as a throng of people
** This diagonal line that appears to be one is actually two: はな
         れ

***The first character is not clearly recognizable.

For technical reason the alternative kanas are displayed in their modern forms.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Oh, I got it! The haze and the crownd will be vanished from the Nihonbashi like Kira Yoshinaka of Ako Incident was vanished (beheaded)? Astonished!

Many Thanks Nagy.
Congrats from Brazil. You are wonderfully skilled!
Renato
