Subject:Mysterious impressed mark on porcelain Japanese Meiji Vase - SETO???
Posted By: Tom Sat, Dec 07, 2024 IP: 51.37.116.137

Dear
I want to ask for help reading the sign on a small vase reminiscent of the work of many outstanding ceramicists. Unfortunately, I have been trying to solve this puzzle for some time now without success. I am obliged for any hint.
Thank you

In my opinion this is Seto ware and the marks reads 千峰 = Senpö.

There was a studio in Seto called Senpö-en 千峰園, the pottery studio of Ito Shirozaemon, one of the famous Seto potters.
Source: Captain Brinkley's book - mark 629).

Regards,
Martin.

Thank you, Martin. I know Ito, and for some time, I have been looking for his work for my small collection (unfortunately, only 16 different Sets so far). The best thing is that I have seen his mark several times checking that puzzle. You don't even know how happy I am that it is his little vase. It is like a present under the Christmas tree. Thank you also for your fantastic satsumadatabase, which I can no longer live without. It is a wonderful work. Thx, Much obliged
and a Happy New Year
