Subject:Hanging wood carving of a winged Apsara nymph figure
Posted By: Malcolm Reed Thu, Nov 07, 2024 IP: 67.168.234.143

This carving is presumed to be a winged Apsara nymph figure from Goa. I was told in 1985 when it purchased at an antique store in the United States that it was an angel that hung in a church in Goa, but I suspect that was just a story.
It is 21" from head to toe, and has a 24" wing span. It is in very good condition with well worn paint and what I guess is gilding, but may be gold paint? I would be interested to know anything about its actual origin, attributes, age and value.
