Subject:Buncho painting?
Posted By: Andrea Tue, Aug 27, 2024 IP: 95.234.128.93

Hello everyone. This painting looks like Buncho's signature. Can anyone give me an opinion? What does the seal say? Many thanks for any suggestions.
Best regards,
Andrea

Signarure and seal,
白峰 Hakuhō

Art-name, very often used in Meji and Taisho eras, therefore unidentifiable in absence of reference works.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Many thanks, dear Nagy. What you say refers to the seal? But the signature (apocryphal, I think) is 文晁 Bunchō?

Kind regards,
Andrea

Dear Andrea,
In the first character (白) of the signature there is no apparent continuity between the strokes - therefore it looks a bit idiosyncratic.
Also its should be noted that some grass-script forms of the character 白 are very different from its regular-script forms
However, the second character is clearly a deformed (峰).
