Posted By: Robert Mon, May 13, 2024 Are you sure this is ivory and not plastic? Are Schreger lines present? A Hot needle test on ivory in an inconspicuous place should smell like burning hair. |

Posted By: Gabi Tue, May 14, 2024 It is not elephant ivory, for sure! I believe (hope) that it is hippo tusk. I've found a somehow similar carving introduced as hippo tusk. |

Posted By: Gabi Wed, May 15, 2024 I have found on Proantic an erotic ceremonial dagger with more or less the same scrimshaw on one side and an erotic carving on the other side. Hoping that they are used to verifying the items, I hope mine is hippo tusk; chinese carving. If Proantic doesn't check their , both could be fake... It has very thin circular lines in section, which is triangle shaped, like a tree. https://www.proantic.com/en/1047788-ceremonial-dagger-with-erotic-decors.html# |
