Improbable as it may seem to some if not most people, my first impression is that this might be a special collectable ink stick.

It's late at night so I don't have time to work through the inscriptions, but rely on others to help.

Thank you I Nagy and Mikeoz Sun for your reply and information.

Does anyone have any information on Fan Jinshi ,Du Yongwei or indeed the piece itself?

Any info would be most helpful.

Thank you in advance
i have a great start to my research now.

Thank you I Nagy for your time and information.
It has been interesting looking up this subject and see online that Fan Jinshi has been recognized with all sorts of awards in recent years and has even had a comet named after her.

Does anyone have any information on the piece itself?.I presume it was cast between 1998 and 2014 ,while Fan Jinshi was director of Dunhuang Academy.
The design regestration number is actualy 003405370.was hard to read from the first picture.
Thank you for any information in advance

Heres an update on my research.

After alot of looking on line i could not find any other pieces of any kind by Du Yongwei which had been offered for sale, or anything indeed by Fan Jinshi.

So out of curiosity I contacted one of the main auction houses and sent them pictures of the Piece. After sending my enquiry to a specialist they said that based on the images and subject to change on inspection, that this is a contemporary work and that the sculptors work had not appeared at auction. They went on to say that they are not able to provide a value for the piece.

Also on researching and by coincidence i only realised that Fan Jinshi has a film released in China,Great love Dunhuang, about her life story. It was released over the last couple of weeks i think on 17th of this month.

I am wondering why i cannot find reference of any kind to any other pieces by the sculpter, Du Yongwei or indeed Fan Jinshi on line ,which have been offered for sale at any time.

Would love to hear if anyone has any opinions or insight into this.

Thanks again for all help
