Subject:Deep Porcelain Dish
Posted By: Den Mon, Nov 06, 2023 IP: 146.200.7.6

Greetings! Any opinions on this Famille Vert piece would be much appreciated. It may be that the faint blue under wash could possibly be a chinese/japanese character. Many thanks. Den.

I believe your dish was decorated using printed transfers that were enameled by hand. The firing in this case is uneven, which dulled the colors. The gilt borders on the rim were laid down in one case a bit incongruously in the one at about five o'clock in cavetto as shown above.

Gotheborg.com shows a couple of dishes with dragons where base marks should be and dates one example to circa 1900-1930s, which may apply to yours as well.

Best regards,

Bill H.
