Subject:1800s woodblock identification
Posted By: Jason Karras Fri, Sep 13, 2019 IP: 2600:1700:3050:6f70: I was able to remove this woodblock print from a circa 1870s scrapbook, it was the only item of it's kind in the scrapbook. I haven't been able to identify it (no writing doesn't help), any ideas? It measures 9.5" x 13.25". Thanks |

Posted By: Stan Sat, Sep 14, 2019 Your print is the center panel of a triptych by Toyohara Yoshu Chikanobu (1838-1912) - 'View of Mukoka from the Kiyomizu in Ueno'上野清水ヨリ向ケ岡眺望ノ図 - 1880. I found the triptych in an old auction at the link below. To see the print, scroll down to the middle of the page and click on the picture of the triptych. |
