Buddha seated in bhumisparsamudra

A figure of Buddha seated in bhumisparsamudra on a cushion. The figure wears monastic robes and his hair rises to form an usnisha topped by a flame finial.

The horizontal planes on the waisted throne are decorated with saw tooth designs. The stem of a lotus plant wraps around the throne with both ends terminating in a lotus bud supporting a diminutive kneeling devotee either side of the Buddha figure. A flame aureole surrounds the main figure with two small flames forming backgrounds for the donor figures

The sculpture is carved from one piece of wood and is embellished with red and black lacquer and gold leaf.
