The popularity of tantric rituals practiced by the Malla Kings gave rise to an increased visual canon and a greater demand for religious objects. As a result, the Malla period witnessed the proliferation of multi-limbed tantric deities and icons. Newar artists refined their casting techniques and skills to accurately express the challenging forms and complex concepts described in the popular tantric literature of the time.
