Vasudhara
Goddess of Abundance
Nepal; ca. 13th century
Metal
Rubin Museum of Art
C2007.23.1 (HAR 65791)

The complexity and elegance of Newar metal casting—featuring soft and sensuous modeling, sharply defined facial features, and jewelry and ornamentation—figures prominently in early Malla-period sculpture (1200-1481). In comparison with another dated Vasudhara bronze sharing similar stylistic attributes, this work can be closely dated to the beginning of the 13th century.
