Michael Phillips

Michael Phillips is a highly successful producer, with many great films to his credit. Born in Brooklyn and raised in Long Island, he spent a few years working in the finance industry on Wall Street before moving to California in 1972 with his wife, Julia Phillips, where they worked together on a string of great hits; after their first film, Steelyard Blues, in 1972, they produced The Sting, Taxi Driver and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Phillips has become a serious collector of Asian Art, particularly Indian Southeast Asian and Himalayan sculpture. This exhibition shows a selection from the many works that Phillips and his wife Juliana Maio have donated to LACMA.
