Winter
Worm, Summer Grass
First painting of the Chinese Apothecary Series
18 inches x 9 inches
Watercolor and graphite on paper
Signature date: 10.1.06

Chinese
caterpillar fungus, dried medicinal flat fish, and pomegranate flesh
whose paradigmatic construction is based on Utagawa Hiroshige's Sudden
Shower Shower on the Great Bridge (1857), from the series One Hundred
Famous Views of Edo. The laceration of the bridge, prostrate and helpless,
is resigned to the serene encroachment of the surrounding landscape,
which harbors latent intentions of encapsulation and depredation. |
