The deity has a pleasant expression on his face and sits in virasana, the heroic posture, on a pedestal with his left leg gracefully crossed over the right. His uppermost right hand holds the prayer beads and the upper left hand holds the trident. His dhoti is secured with a sash flowing down the side, and he wears a beaded necklace and floral armlets. Shiva belongs to the group of the Seven Mothers (sapta matrikas), Pandyan Period, 9th Century from the district of Thirunelveli, Tamil Nadu.
