A rare and unusual Japanese display cabinet from the Ryukyu Kingdom, built in two black lacquered stacking sections having an arrangement of open shelves, small drawers, sliding doors, decorated in mother-of-pearl inlay including not only the door and drawer fronts but the framework edges and shelf backdrops with Chinese style figural landscapes. birds in flowering branches, dragon crests, snowflakes and a variety of decorative patterns.
