A pair of mallow shaped dishes
China
Ching Dynasty; first half of 18th century
lacquer; inlaid with mother of pearl
Diameter: 12.4cm
Mallow-flower form dishes and designs were regularly
seen in the Song dynasty, and the maker
of these dishes, was certainly inspired by works of that era. The plain reverse
has a very
delicate band of inlay just below the silver bound rim.
Inlaid in mother of pearl, they are decorated in the style of Jiang Qianli,
thought to have
been active during the second half of 17th century.
Provenence: A Private Collection
Exhibited: Art Institute of Chicago, 1974.
