Matmi Sarong

Sarong, Laos, silk and cotton, ca. late 19th-early 20th c. This Lao sarong (Sin mi) is representative of the most luxurious of Southeast Asian textiles. Consisting of alternating areas of red silk matmi (ikat), silk supplementary weft and blue cotton matmi, these sarongs were used only on special occasions. Price: $800.
