Modern; 15th-16th century
Gilded copper

Seated Bodhisatva, possibly Avalokiteswara

This vigorously modeled six-armed figure, probably the Bodhisatva Avalokiteswara, is at once reposeful and dynamic. Seated in lalitasana, the principle hands are in the dharmacakra mudra, the secondary right hand expresses the varada mudra while the remaining hands grasp lotus, rosary, and sacred text.
