Subject:Reading of Seals - Kitani (Yoshioka) Chigusa
Posted By: Irwin Sun, May 05, 2024 IP: 174.127.209.134

Would appreciate assistance in reading any of the pictured seals attributed to the nihonga artist Kitani Chigusa 木谷千種 (Yoshioka Chigusa 吉岡千種)
(1895–1947); kana: 千種(ちえ,ちくさ,ちぐさ). A second set of seals is also being posted.

All seals, except No.2. should be read as Chigusa.
For alternative (old) kanas - as here - in many cases the sonant marks are not marked,
Note, for the time being it is not yet possible to display alternative kanas on PCs.
No. 1,
ちくさ derived from 知久左 Chigusa - sonant mark not marked on く(久)
No.2.
I red it,
白帆 Shiraho (White sail) - could be a title, or even a given name
No.3,
千く佐 Chigusa - sonant mark not marked on く

With regards,
I.Nagy

I believe the second seal 白帆 Shiraho belongs to the artist Yawata Hakuhan (aka Yawata Shiraho) 1893-1957. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.
