Subject:Ancient Zhou Bronze Incense Burner
Posted By: Eric Tipton Fri, Dec 02, 2016 IP: 2601:019b:4400:2781:

Hello all,

I've had fake Zhou Dynasty bronze pieces before and the patina was much different, and this one looked better to me. It came from a large collector, with some of his items selling for thousands at auction, so it definitely makes me wonder. Can anyone notice anything that gives it away as being authentic or fake? Or even an older fake? Thanks so much for any help.

My very strong impression, is this this an obvious fake. There are no stilistical problems, since such copies are made ny making a silicon mold of a genuine object. There are however strong problems regarding the patina, which looks artificial. Almost every collector, however great, has some similar examples. Youth sins. I donĀ“t have such, but I still have some more elaborate fakes than this one.

You should look longer such items, which are reputedly genuine, sold by Gisele Croes, Deydier or Eskenazi. You will see after a while the huge difference.
