Subject:Paintings
Posted By: Dan E. Sun, Aug 12, 2007 IP: 75.129.55.249

Hello,

I am helping an elderly gentleman sort through his collection of Japanese art objects. He spent 7 years in Mito with a Samari (head of clan) family just after the 2nd world war. Over that time he received many gifts, reportedly these were taken directly out of their family Godong. It will be very helpful to us if someone can translate some of the writing and if anyone recognizes the makers. There are over 20 scroll paintings a Samari helmet, statues and much much more.

Thank you, Dan E.

This is the helmet. He has the face mask but it's still packed away. I'll get a picture of that as soon as he locates it.

These are some of the statues. The tall Buda has some writing on the back.

Hi,

These are some of the seals. I will post more images of the signatures and the paintings. I appreciate any help that may be offered.

Rather than post links to each painting I decided to upload a gallery of images. If you follow the link to "Japanese Scroll Collection Image Gallery" you will see thumbnail and full size images of some of the scrolls I have. Please let me know if you need additional images or close ups.

Thanks again for any help on identifying these.

Dan
