Subject:Japanese Saki warming pot
Posted By: Bill H Sat, Oct 03, 2020 IP: 18.218.232.209

Here are some pictures of an unmarked Saki warming pot that belongs to a friend. I gather from what I've read the pot may be called a 'choshi tetsubin' or something like that. According to the friend, it has been in the family for years and once was in a museum collection. He had always thought it to be a pot for tea but, intrigued by the long spout, did some checking and decided it probably was for saki. The construction seems to be heavy sheet iron crimped together.

He is wondering now if there is anything evident from its fabrication techniques or external appearance that could be used to date the piece. Since I'm also short of information on such things, this will be a learning experience for me too.

Thanks and best regards,

Bill H.
