Posted By: Bill H Wed, Sep 23, 2020 The cup strives to imitate imperial ware of the 19th century Xianfeng reign (1851-61) with a rare underglaze blue mark of 'Da qing Xian feng nian zhi' (大清咸豐年製), 'Made during the Xianfeng period of the Great Qing Dynasty'. However, the mark is calligraphically deficient in its flourishes, in my opinion. Compare to the photo below of a rather quintessential Xianfeng imperial mark. Most period minyao (popular kiln) marks I've seen were in iron red. |
