Subject:Eisen Keisai aizuri-e bijin-ga aiban woodblock
Posted By: Mark Rowland Sun, Jan 05, 2020 IP: 73.4.67.140 I believe that the attached pictures show a print by Eisen Keisai with a Kiwame censor and Mikawa village. The publisher (?) mark is faint, but it looks like a square with three horizontal bars of uneven length. What has me stumped is the writing and stamps on the back of the print. Does anyone understand these marks and writing? |

Posted By: Mark Rowland Tue, Jan 07, 2020 Thank you for you insight into possible publishers. After an on-line search using the helpful information provided by Mr. I. Nagy, I found a symbol on the German Kiefer Auction web site that looks similar (website www.kiefer.de/...; URL shown below). |

Posted By: Mark Rowland Tue, Jan 07, 2020 Thank you for your prompt, detailed and interesting response. Does this mean that the print was made prior to 1821, since the printmaking process would effect the writing of the official petition on the back? Additionally, is the petition related to the print in any way? I have attached an enlarged picture of what I believe is the faint publisher's seal and sketched it to the left for clarity. |
