Subject:Chinese? Persian? Porcelain
Posted By: Tom Fri, Aug 17, 2018 IP: 2600:1002:b10f:10d7:

My opinion this is not a repro but maybe Chinese export for Persian market.
Reasons: 1) too heavy, probably 3 times the weight of a repro, 2) over 100 real rust spots varying sizes, I know the fake, 3) heaped & piled effect on doe's head and elsewhere, 4) hand turned by a potter
Negatives: 1) can't find similar antlers, 2) can't find similar fan-type decoration, 3) very deep cobalt. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

It's porcelain, therefore, it's not Persian. Persian ceramics were a kind of fritware (stonepaste) coated with an opaque tin enamel glaze. It looks like a modern decal painted "art" vase drilled to make a lamp.

Looks like a reproduction of a Ming period vase with the base drilled to imitate age (new technique fakers are using).

The weight is 8 pounds. If a repro, they got the weight correct and the antique looking rust spots. If a decal, I would think they would use the same decal for the buck's horns on both sides of the vase, but one side has the horns almost 1/4" shorter. Also the buck from bent knee to end of leg that can be seen is 1/4" shorter. The second buck has an extra flower in front of his thigh on his breast and none on his nose, the flowers are not lined up and the bucks' thicknesses are not the same. I guess a different stencil could have been used. The hole is 1/4" thick. I know reproducers are doing that for lamps, seen many. But, if fake, not seen them do the correct looking rust spots. Also, would love to see a similar reproduction or real. Surely, there's not just one made. Thanks all!
