Subject:Oriental Hand Fan

Does anyone know what era it is from or who the artist is for this oriental fan ? Thank you.

The fan is a copy. Inscription reads,
晉昌唐寅畫　-　Jinchang Tang Yin
(Tang Yin 1470-1523, Ming painter and poet, one of Four great southern talents of the Ming
Tang Yin`s ancestral home was Jinchang, so in his paintings and calligraphy he often used the words "Jinchang Tang Yin")
江深草圖　-　Jiang Shencao Pavilion
Jiang Shencao is a classic subject in Chinese literati painting. The painting`s inspiration comes from Du Fu`s (杜甫７12-770) poetry
Seal,
唐寅私印　-　Private seal of Tang Yin

The other two seals are probably collector`s seals.

Thank you again, Mr I.Nagy. Am however slightly unsure about what you mean by copy. Is it a copy (fake) by some other artist? Or merely a copy or reproduction of the original. Please excuse my ignorance. Also does it have any worth at all? Much thanks.

In my opinion a fake is only a that when a vendor intends to sell it as original. Hence, if it is sold as a reproduction it is not fake. Since Tang dynasty original pieces of any kind are illegal to export the chances are that nearly all examples are reproductions. That doesn't mean though that they have no value. Mere mortals like us will sometimes only ever have access to reproductions as the only originals are hidden / displayed in museums. In China in this case. Of course institutional robbery has taken place over the centuries and an original could easily be found in almost any western museum.
I did a quick scan of ebay to see what Tang / Ming style fans go for. Anything from $50 thru $400 would be where I would see yours. I would stick it on the wall and enjoy it as it is lovely. Try and find out where the original is and make a trip out to go and see it.

The same fan was catalogued under the above title in the C.C. Wang Family Collection. However, after the death of C.C.Wang (2008) a part of this collection
is missing.
