Subject:CARVED ROCK CRYSTAL HONG SHEN SEAL?

I recently purchased this small seal measuring approx 4 cms high. It appears to be made of rock crystal with some inclusions as shown in the images. I would appreciate any thoughts members may have as to its origin. I have seen similar examples which are made from coloured glass with a similar character mark on the base which are obviously fake, this one is different.

There had been many of these similar "crystal" Hongshan style carvings in past years, some small and many very large. It was hard to do scratch test on them since glass surface was very slippery. However, one of these study pieces broke and chipped surface (like that of broken glass)clearly show that it was made of glass. Therefore, your piece is very modern, made of glass, in the style of Hongshan. Super

Sorry I believe you are mistaken about the material, this piece easily scratches glass and has natural internal fractures that would be impossible to recreate with glass. I have no idea if it is a modern fake but it is certainly not glass.

It scratches easy. . simple, it is Serpentine, and obviously made and treated to resemble Nephrite (Jade).
