Subject:Age and origins of Buddha head
Posted By: Ross Evans Tue, Jun 06, 2017 IP: 144.136.107.162

I am trying to identify a stone Buddha head that I purchased in 2006 from a Chinese artefacts dealer in Australia who has since gone out of business. The dealer purchased the head in China in late 2005 or early 2006. The head is approximately 70 cm high x 45 cm wide, excluding the stand, and weighs about 280kg. It is finely carved and appears to have been painted blue and then gilded on the face. It is unfinished on the back. Can anyone tell me the likely age and origins of this head or how I might find out more?
