Posted By: rat Thu, Apr 13, 2017 price seems quite reasonable, can't read the artist's inscription, assume 20th century to be conservative |

Posted By: Danny Sat, Apr 15, 2017 I have plenty of pieces that are of artists of no notoriety. A few old ones from 18th century that I never identified. I like them and all, but I like knowing I made a good investment that might pan out in the future if I decided to sell. The woman who owned these had several original Ukiyo-e prints. She was a famous author though I am not sure who she is exactly. I purchase antiques for a living and am trying to learn more about Asian antiques as I don't know enough about them. I figured that being that she had some very well known prints, that this original painting may have been by someone famous. The way I see it is there are a lot of dealers at estate sales, but the majority are like myself who have very little experience with Asian antiquities. This leaves the market open for someone like myself. It also causes me to make some bad investments along the way. |

Posted By: Danny Sun, Apr 23, 2017 No, not necessarily art with monetary value. I myself like Japanese battle scenes / warriors / samurai prints and pictures of birds in oriental arts. I like landscapes and nature as well, but not the typical tourist pieces you see so often. I love Aizuri prints, too. A lot of the ones that I have chose to keep have not been worth very much. It just so happens the ones I like are also the ones collectors want. So, when I have the choice between making a fair sum of money, and keeping an original piece, I will usually take the money. The reprints, and ones that are worth less money are usually the ones I keep. I am not a stickler for the necessity of having an 'original' piece. Utagawa Kuniyoshi, Katsushika Hokusai,Rakusan Tsuchiya are all artists I like. The above picture I was interested in purchasing if it had resale value. Nothing about it I found aesthetically pleasing I was just inquiring for maybe on the off chance it was someone of esteem. |
