Subject:Chinese Embroidery Information Identifacation
Posted By: Gary Mon, Aug 19, 2013 IP: 86.136.145.106 I have this old framed silk embroidery it measures approx 30 inches by 16 inches,, very fine detail with very fine thread I have to use a magnify glass to see that it is thread,, only colours used is black and grey on a white base, there is chinese charaters down each side and one character is a english monogram, it's also signed on the picture "LO" one the back is a framers label from england who where in business from 1915 - 1954 so maybe it was reframed at some point within this period,, if anyone can read the charactors I would love to know more about it. |

Posted By: Bill H Tue, Aug 20, 2013 This is a machine-made "Jacquard" type woven picture, identified in the right-hand column of characters as depicting West Lake in the Pinghu area of Hangzhou Municipality, Zhejiang province, during the fall. In the left-hand column it is indicated to have been made by a factory at Hangzhou. I believe this probably is a souvenir of West Lake dating from about the mid-20th century if not a few years before the Japanese invasion of 1936. I've seen other such pieces on the forum but now can't seem to find the right key-word for the search engine. |
