Subject:Japanese Samurai plate

Hi,

My husband inherited an antique collection from an aunt. We found this strange plate with a samurai and a dragon around the edge. Does anyone have any idea of what it is?? It isn't made of metal....maybe ceramic or resin?? It's chipped in a few areas so that's why I don't think it's metal. It's too thick to be a plate and it has a black felt backing on it. It is beautiful and intricate, but is it valuable? Thanks

Grace,

It has only a modest value, being a damaged plaster of paris or a type of gypsum.

Regards, Ed
