Subject:Asian ID help? :>)

If anyone might help with the Id/marks of a few pieces. Thanks ahead of time!
I posted back in feb,on another piece, with not much luck, but her is my story agqain. My friend came over from Korea around 1970. She brought some art with her to USA. Do these pieces look likethey are originally from Korea? I really don't even know what they are called.
The vase type, I have not found a signature. It has 3 holes on each side, the brown center area isn't smooth finish it is roughere. The bottom has a center hole, and three ridges on the rim.
Thanks jenny

Jenny,

From your description of the double-leaf pot and saucer, it was made to be a potted plant holder, a planter. It was thoughtfully designed for proper water drainage.

The large covered jar would possibly have been made as a meal serving piece. The underglaze flying cranes are rather obscured by the thick glaze. They are probably painted, rather than inlaid. Their form and configuration are a very good sign of production for a Korean market. If you have a chance to look at any books on Korean greenwares made 500 years ago, you will instantly recognize them. It would not be hard to find illustrations of the the types that are predecessors of what you show on the web, using "Korea" and "celadon" as search terms. You will see quite a difference in color, texture and thickness of glaze between what you show and the old pieces.

I don't see a reason to suspect that these were made much before your friend brought them from Korea. Others may have a different idea.

I am sorry I cannot translate the mark for you. Perhaps someone else can.

Best regards,
Judy
