Subject:Unusual Dyed Tassel on Chinese Official's Mandarin Winter Hat

Hello,

I am looking for some guidance on the unusual colouring of the tassel on this winter hat (purple over the original red). I found one other example online in an auction lot, but no mention of why it is a brown/purple shade.

Does anyone have information as to why this tassel has been dyed?
