Subject:Mark Identification
Posted By: Mark Sawyer Sun, Feb 14, 2021 IP: 24.166.67.31

Hello,

I have an octagonal sided bowl with the following mark on it. I've received wonderful info on this forum before and was hoping for some information on this mark. Thank you kindly.

Mark reads,
若山 - Wakayama

Probably Arita ware.

With regards,

Dear I.Nagy,
I was wondering if the seal mark is written from right to left like the one in the post, or is it mirrored and should it look like the picture I include (mirrored) ??? Because of the way it's written with 若.
Regards,
Martin.

Dear Martin,

若山 on the bowl reads from right to left and it is not mirrored. There are some characters that swap their right and left components in their seal scipt forms, e.g. 若、右、布、有 etc.

With regards,
I.Nagy
