Posted By: Robert Sat, Feb 13, 2021 From the enamel colors, wire work, and extensive pitting of the enamels, I think these were made at the beginning of the Meiji period, or about 1870. On pieces made from the late 1880s to the end of Meiji one sees more colors, finer wire work (often silver and more rarely gold) and a dramatic decrease in the number and size of pits and other imperfections. As to the design of the border, stylized butterflies and other abstract decorative elements were incorporated into the design. |
