Subject:Chinese Horizontal Scroll 40 Feet Long - Boxed
Posted By: Jim Val Tue, Feb 02, 2021 IP: 72.65.52.171

Would like to know the age and value of this horizontal scroll. The scroll is 12 inches wide, and 40 feet long. There is a 4 1/2 foot leader strip at each end with 30 feet of art work. Scenes are of country side, rivers, boats, pagodas, temples, very detailed. The outer leader has a fabric strap with a jade clasp. The inner leader seems to be wound on a dowl, with jade ends. The box is wrapped in fabric.

New/recent reproduction of this picture attributed to Qiu Ying (https://www.comuseum.com/painting/masters/qiu-ying/along-the-river-during-the-qingming-festival/), which is in turn a version of a Song picture (https://scrolls.uchicago.edu/view-scroll/52).
You might be able to find another one on Taobao for sale to get a price.

A recent repro of the copy made by Qiú Yīng (1499-1552) from the 12th c. original version by Zhang Zeduan.

Thank you for the replies. Based on those replies I got to thinking about my visits to the National Palace Museum in Taipei, Taiwan. They have a gift shop and I found their online store. There is a similar reproduction scroll:

On sale for only NT$ 88,000. That converts to about US$ 3,000. Thanks again.
