Subject:Another old scroll age and artist
Posted By: John Tue, Oct 13, 2020 IP: 2607:fb90:ef67:347:3

This one has no american writing but I believe a Chinese poem or story. I was wondering if anyone knows the artist, age or any history on it? Some of these are very fragile and seem to not have been untied in a long time. I am trying to not to damage them as I unroll and reroll them back up but it is a task... I have no idea if they have any value or importance or are worthless but like I said any help is greatly appreciated. I have over 30 and will list a few at a time in an attempt to at least know what I have acquired:)There also is another seal on this one I will update once this gets posted but only had room for 3 photos.

Dear John,

Your scroll is Japanese. The calligrapher was a Jodo (Pure Lamd) Sect high priest named Morita Jōgen 杜多定玄. He was active at the end of 18th and beginning of 19th century. Let's say its about max 250 years old.
The title; 昨朗君齎 - A letter to be handed over the son of the main family

Inscriptions on the outside,
定玄尊者出蔵長齎 - Long letter from the collection of the Vituous Hight Priest Jōgen

It would be too long and difficult to translate the whole text.

With regards,
I.Nagy
