Subject:Chinese or Japanese figurine with interesting mark

Hallo all.
I am not certain whether this is Chinese or Japanese. This ceramic figurine (6" tall) is very detailed and the colours are lovely. However, the mark on the base is difficult to interpret.
Can anyone please identify the mark, maker or character? Is this chap Japanese or Chinese?

It's a Japanese Satsuma ware figurine dating from around 1930.
But I've never seen the mark underneath before, so I can't help you with that.

As a follow-up to my last question:
I found this lick which clearly places my figurine in the Kutani arena.

I can see the strong similarities, however the figurines in the link have 'Made in Japan' on the base (standard from the 1930's), whereas mine does not; so I am assuming my piece is earlier. Does this make sense?

Hi Larry.
To my untrained eye I would suggest it is indeed porcelain. The skin/features are beautifully made (there is even a thumb nail on the left hand). The skin of the man is very smooth and cold to the touch.
If possibly Kutani, would this change the possible date?

I always date that type of decorated Kutani ware to post war (1950's on) but that's just my opinion.
I think the mark on yours does say Made in Japan but the rubber-stamp wasn't applied very well so it smudged, making it look like some kind of other mark.
Again, just my opinion!
