Subject:Ginger Jar? ID?

Unless feedback suggests otherwise, I assume this was what's referred to as a ginger jar (which in better times, would have had a same material lid)?

Based on the photos, is it possible to determine;
a) Origin?
b) Approximate age?
c) If there are actual identifiable markings & if so what do they represent?
