If anyone can help with this piece of jade it is appreciated. Is it older and what kind?

Judging by your carving it would appear to be a 'laughing buddha'. Date wise 20/21 century and a tourist type ware.

This carving probably passed the hardness test easily. Now , please use a strong light, shine it on the stone, and see if there is a light sparkle.

Thank you for the reply.....I shined the light and you can see gold flecks but they are very small and hard to see along with some red brown..... and two on one side that have a blueish shimmer....

I can understand that you identified this carving of being Jade. . it is easy to make that mistake with that color. Sorry to say that it is Quartz, and yes ,even harder than Jade.

Another thought, as this stone seems to be rare, it might be a good idea to keep it as a study piece. . .
