Subject:Help to identify text or signature on Japanese painting of blossom tree
Posted By: Isabelle Fri, Oct 19, 2018 IP: 217.102.181.77

Beside this Japanese painting of a blossom tree is some text or signature. Does anyone knows what it spells?

The painting is Chinese,
Inscriptions,
梅花得意不粗肥
Plum blossoms are proud of themselves not being rough and fat
癸丑仲夏 - Year of Water-Buffalo (...1913,1973)
尹王愛華 - Yin Wang Aihua
Seal,
王愛華 - Wang Aihua

I could not find any identification regarding the above paintress.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Dear I. Nagy,

Thank you very much for the information. Could the year of the Water-Buffalo refer to the year it was painted? Do you have any idea about the age of the painting? The passe-partout seems 1960's or 1970's, but it might be framed later of course.

Kind regards,
Isabelle

Dear Isabelle,

Dating, the year when the artist painted this work
is indicated in the sexagenary cycle (in this case ,in the year of Water-Buffalo ...1913,1973) - which returns in every 60th year.Judging from the picture I'd rather date it to 1973 than 1913.

With regards,
I.Nagy
