The picture depicts Tenjin-sama, the deificated Sugawara no Michizane, a famous cholar and poet of Heian period.
Signature and seal,
義昭 -Yoshiaki

Box inscriptions,
緞子 - Damask
一字廻し - One letter turning - a single character wide frissure around the work -
天神様 - Tenjin-sama
本田義昭 - Honda Yoshiaki (Name of artist)
五尺座像 - 5 shaku (1,5 m) high seating picture
I could not find Japanese painter with this name.

With regards,
I.Nagy
