Subject:Ukiyo-e painting of Asahina no Saburô
Posted By: Guy Fri, Sep 28, 2018 IP: 2a02:1810:4833:9600:

This 18th century painting on paper depicts the warrior Asahina no Saburô and a courtesan.

Can someone decipher the artist's seal? Thanks.

Guy.

Seal reads,
重幹 - Shigeki, Shigeyoshi or Shigekazu
I could not find artist with this name.
Possibly, less important painter belonging to some of the Kano Schools.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Thank you Mr Nagy. Can be pronounced as Shigemoto also.
I was wondering if the second character eventually could be 朝 (cfr. chart).

Guy.

Dear Guy,
Thank you for the attached chart. I think
朝 is a better option. Pronounced as Shigetomo (重朝)also.
With regards,
I.Nagy
