Subject:Reposting—really hoping for help with translation
Posted By: Sirach Sat, Aug 25, 2018 IP: 216.109.25.120

Hello,

Really hoping for assistance in translating the signature of a picture. I have attached the picture (I didn’t previously). Have not been able to find any answers and would appreciate any help.

1970s-era decorative Japanese picture for the tourist market, not sure of the name the artist is using

Thank you for reposting the whole picture, not only the signature and seal. The picture is definitely Japanese. As of the problematic 2nd character despite of the calligraphic rules let us read it 月 -getsu.
露月画 - Picture of Rogetsu (Signature)
Seal,
露月 - Rogetsu
(I still cannot identify the 2nd character surely -it can be "getsu" as well)

In the Japanese art literature I found a painter, named Nakagawa Rogetsu 中川蘆月 -
(Sometimes written 露月)1858-1924. Painter from Osaka,
The style is the same but the available signature and seal read 蘆月 -therefore, I can not say it certainly that this is the same)

With regards,
I.Nagy
