Subject:Vintage Teak Mask
Posted By: MLong Thu, Nov 09, 2017 IP:

Can anyone shed some light on this object? I believe it is a teak wood Samurai mask, presumably of Japanese origin, but not completely sure. It is 9" x 13" and VERY heavy, with no written markings. Acquired by my father in the late 1960s while residing in Vietnam. It used to have a carved wedge of ivory teeth, but was lost over the years and many moves.

Chinese carving, circa mid-20th century, resembling one of the legendary gods or demi-gods such as Guan Gong (AKA Guan Yu).

Best Regards,
