Subject:Need Help with mark on Japanese vase
Posted By: Mitko Thu, Jul 27, 2017 IP: 213.114.167.138

Hello Everybody!
I need a little help with reading the mark on this vase. It is a small vase ~ 5.5 inches and has very fine enameled decoration and is made of hard paste porcelain. Some of the gold characters of the mark are worn but still visible at certain light & angle. The other side of the vase has another panel with landscape with women & children. All comments and information regarding style and age are appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Mitko,

In my opinion the mark reads: Dai Nippon 大日本 - Oda 織田 Sei 製 - xx xx (?) Ga 画 (Great Japan - Made by Oda - Painted by ?). Late Meiji (1890-1910).

Regards,
Martin.

The reading of bottom mark:
大日本織田製 Japanese Empire Oda Product
末盛画 Painted by Suemori
Two generations of Odas (Founder Tanzo and
successor Tanzo ) were pottery makers and exporters of Kutani ware from Terai betw.1846
and 1923.In the great Kanto Eathquake(1923)
their Yokohama factory was hit hard, therefore
they moved to Kobe, but shortly after closed
the business.
With regards,
