Subject:Boot sale Planter
Posted By: Marc Wed, Jul 26, 2017 IP: 82.10.162.244

Hi, I bought this planter at a boot sale last weekend for £3 and am intrigued as to it's age and if it is Chinese or Japanese?

I know nothing about this stuff but it just screamed buy me, so I did!

It has two dragons and lots of flowers and the decoration runs from the very bottom all the way up over the top lip. It is very heavy.

It has a chunk missing from the top lip and a hairline crack that only seems to be on the inside.

Please see images.

Hi toan, Thanks for the info.

I think - I will treat my money plant to an upgrade as it has out grown it's current pot.

Hi Marc & Toan,

The base-mark reads 羊城戊辰年製 (Yangcheng Wuchen Nian Zhi), translatable as Made at Guangzhou (former Canton) in the Wuchen Year". Wuchen is a Chinese cyclical date that last came around in 1988, which I'd opine is when the planter likely was made.

Best regards,

Bill H.
