10. A Woodblock Print Depicting Kalacakra in Yabyum Mongolia 19th Century Dimensions: 39" x 26-1/2" (100 x 67 cm) |
On a ground of rich yellow silk satin, the dynamic personification of "the Wheel of Time", with his Yum or sakti stands in tantric attitude on Ananga and Rudra, who are conquered thereby. This represents the essence of the Diamond Path through space, time and earthly phenomena. The crowned deity and his full breasted consort wear lavish gold jewellery and carry various attributes in their hands as they stand within a masiive flaming nimbus. The striking image floats on a lotus throne through a deep, clouded sky above a verdant landscape. Above the image sits the Medicine Buddha flanked by Manjusri and a Gelugpa heirarch, and below him are Garuda and White Tara.
