It has elaborately ornate carvings in contrasting light and dark brown finishes. It features a sturdy woven rattan top and is surrounded on three sides by removable railing and carved panels depicting traditional Chinese iconography. Chinese daybeds or lohans got nicknamed as opium beds during China's opium addiction period in the 1800's. Public "opium dens" were popular places to buy and use opiates. While indulging, patrons would recline on these daybeds, thus they became known as opium beds. A cross between chaise longue, sofa and a bed, they are a practical and artistically appealing decorating solution.
